ART AND THE CREATOR

"Physical science is a thing on the outskirts of human life... adventurous... exciting... and yet essentially fanciful."  - G. K. Chesterton

The Subject of Science - A Tool or A Toy?

"The realm of science is limited.  To have a view of the complete universe, you have to have a view larger than the universe.  A comprehensive view of the universe involves the natural and supernatural (Science and Superstition).  The realm of science is the physical natural world; you could say the mechanical world, in the sense that, the world is a machine. Science looks after the machine, studying it, understanding how it works, using it, and taking care of it.  Science is practical, not philosophical.  It either adds up, or it doesn't! We can use science to predict how the physical world will behave, but we can’t use it to predict how we will behave or if we will behave.

Many assertions made in the name of scientific research without any proof of authority. What is the philosophy of the scientist?  Since our culture has given science authority, we look to it to solve all our troubles.  We've come to expect concrete solutions to spiritual problems.  What we have suffered from in the modern world is not physical knowledge itself but merely a stupid mistake about what physical knowledge is and what it can do.  It is quite as evident that physical knowledge may make a man comfortable as it is that it cannot make a man happy.  It is as certain there are such things as drugs as there are no such things as love potions.  Physical science is a thing on the outskirts of human life adventurous, exciting, and yet essentially fanciful.

You see. It has nothing to do with the center of human life at all.  Telephones, flying ships, radium, the North pole is not in the ultimate sense good, but neither are they bad. Physical science is either always one of two things it is either a tool or a toy.  At its highest and noblest of a cause, it is a toy.  Now a toy is a far greater philosophical grandeur than a tool.  And for the very simple reason that a toy valued for itself and a tool only for something else.  You see.  A tool is a means, but a toy is an end.  You use a hammer to make a doll house, but if you tried to use a doll’s house to make a hammer, you would soon convince you selected a somewhat clumsy instrument.  When we look through a field glass to spy on the enemy, we are using science as a tool.  When we look through a telescope at the tremendous planets and their remote systems, we are using science as a toy.  But, in either case, can science be anything else except for a tool or a toy?  It can never be the man using the tool.  It can never be the child playing with the toy.  It can never, in short, be the thing that has natural authority over the toy or tool for the child is the kingdom of heaven and the man the kingdom of earth.” - G. K. Chesterton

Let's define science and superstition with the understanding that the ultimate authority is God.

Science:  The systematic study of the nature and behavior of the material and physical universe, based on observation, experiment, and measurement, and the formulation of laws to describe these facts in general terms.  Any particular branch of this knowledge: the pure and applied sciences.

Superstition:  A belief or notion, not based on reason or knowledge, in or of the ominous significance of a particular thing, circumstance, occurrence, proceeding, or the like. An irrational fear of what is unknown or mysterious, especially in connection with religion.

PHILOSOPHY

“Philosophy is not the concern of those who pass through Divinity and Greats, but of those who pass through birth and death. Nearly all the more awful and abstruse statements can be put into words of one syllable, from ‘A child is born’ to ‘A soul is damned.’  If the ordinary man may not discuss existence, why should he be asked to conduct it?”  “The Philosopher,” George Bernard Shaw (1910)

ABOUT ART
"Man is the only one of God's creatures who is an artist."  Because we are created in the image of God, we are also creators.  What makes a work of art great? Or, survive through the ages? The thing that survives is that which has a certain combination of normality with distinction.  It has simplicity with a slight touch of strangeness.  It is a tale sufficiently unusual to be worth telling yet immediately intelligible when told.  Art is the signature of man." - G. K. Chesterton

"I resent your being upset by the vulgar rant of common mortals who deny the powers of poetry and art because they are incapable of experiencing them." - Leo Tolstoy
IS IT A TOOL OR A TOY?
Unified Field Theory: "The root of the kaballahistic tree of life becomes the singularity. The vacuum is truly the thing that connects or unifies all things.  It solves the science problem in quantum physics and is proof science and spirituality (science and superstition) can coalesce."   - Nassim Haramein

Haramein, who has spent his lifetime researching fields of physics from quantum theory to relativistic equations and cosmology, will lead you along a fascinating discussion geared to a layman's understanding of the fundamental nature of the universe and creation that includes black holes, gravitational forces, dimensions, and the very structure of space itself - all of which are integral parts of his now-complete Unified Field Theory.
My poetic interpretation of existence at age twenty-two is expressed in the poem FALLING LEAVES below. The poem describes the above picture and the tree of life. I did not possess the words at that time to articulate the fundamental nature of our universe as eloquently as Haramein.  However, I felt all the concepts he talks about in his Unified Field Theory.  It is the season for me to speak and gain my sight!

Art has a way of expressing the eternal even when the creator doesn't fully understand the meaning. The only thing I would add currently is to know what direction you are moving in... and move toward freedom:

"he arranged as upon a sphere with 231 gates, and the sphere can be rotated forward and backward for good or evil. From the right comes real pleasures and from evil naught but torments."

FALLING LEAVES

I sat upon the summit to muse.
And of this earth, I do believe.
We are of the towering trees.
We Wait like the many leaves.
We fall Fall one by one to the ground.
Many branches they do come.
From a root that makes them one.
Showing when their time is done.
With different shades of brown.
And in spring when green appears.
New cycles form for the coming year.
As those past and of now are bound.

July 1985

"If the ordinary man may not discuss existence, why should he be asked to conduct it?"
My true education occurred back in 1985 when I was a metal arc welder and not from my college classes a decade later. College, however, gave me the tools to articulate what I discovered under the welder's helmet; the way the arc of how human life works. Welding is a fabrication or sculptural process that joins materials, usually metals or thermoplastics, by causing coalescence.  I was so fascinated with the process of bonding two metals together that I decided I would become a metal sculptor.  Of course that didn't happen!
Man in the image of God
I challenge everyone to move toward freedom!  TAKE ON ME... and create.  We are all creators!
First step: "To have a view of the complete universe you have to have a view larger than the universe." Are you ready to explore new ideas?

666 Park Avenue: TV Series Review by 3rd Dog Script

666 Park Avenue is an American supernatural drama series, which premiered on ABC on September 30, 2012. The series was created and produced by David Wilcox and loosely based on the novel of the same name by Gabriella Pierce. The show stars Rachael Taylor, Dave Annable, Vanessa Williams, and Terry O'Quinn and follows a couple who learns that the Manhattan apartment building that they just moved into, including its upscale tenants, might be possessed by a mysterious demonic force.

The Plot - 666 Park Avenue focuses on Jane Van Veen (Rachael Taylor) and her partner Henry Martin (Dave Annable), the new co-managers of the Drake residential hotel, located at 999 Park Avenue. The Drake owned by mysterious Billionaire Gavin Doran (Terry O'Quinn) and his wife Olivia (Vanessa Williams). The plot follows both Jane and Henry, and the other residents of the Drake who live in the shadow of the dark supernatural forces of the Drake and its owner.

On December 21, 2012, ABC announced that the final four episodes of 666 Park Avenue would air the following summer. The last episodes were the first broadcast in Spain, and have also since aired in New Zealand and the United Kingdom, ahead of their original airing on ABC. The series finale aired in the United Kingdom on 14 May 2013. -Wikipedia

Unlike some series, the unaired episodes will finish in America this summer alongside 'Zero Hour.'  A question that still lingers in our minds is what caused the sudden demise.

Let's delve into the elements that comprise a Supernatural Drama.

According to Wikipedia, the supernatural drama is a sub-genre of fantasy combining elements of supernatural fiction and the drama genre. This genre deal with ghosts and other paranormal topics, but without the tone and scares associated with the horror genre. The storylines of supernatural dramas have always centered on magic or unexplained phenomena that cannot be rationalized by science but, rather by pagan or supernatural explanations. Supernatural dramas may use creatures of folklore that displayed as neutral or evil rather than creatures of fantasy, which perceived as good-natured (such as fairies, leprechauns, or elves).

The beings are seen in supernatural dramas, or rather just the genre of supernatural itself.   Also, apparitions, spirits, witches, warlocks, superhumans, demons, gods, angels, and miracles (although they are not like miracles of fantasy or divine intervention of God/s) and other similar ideas or depictions of extraordinary phenomena. They may combine with other genres, including comedy, action, science fiction, fantasy, and horror. However, until recently, supernatural works were usually presented in a comical, whimsical, or a romantic fashion, and were not designed to frighten the audience. There are also many hybrids that have combinations of fantasy, action, horror, romance, and comedy.  Examples include Charmed, Hercules, Ghost Whisperer, and Jacob.

So how did 666 Park Avenue rate?

Mark Wilson, About.com Guide, November 19, 2012, says, "The reviews were pretty mixed, which is oddly apt: the show itself comes across as an uneven amalgamation of lush ambiance and very mild horror. The main problem seems to be that 666 Park has played it too safe. If only it had had the courage to be a little shocking."

In my opinion, the drama was too shocking to the psyche and evoked an aversion to the Beast (666) hidden in the basement of the Park Avenue hotel. 666 Park Avenue bypassed the favorite fantasy images and touched the core of our being. The spiraling staircase takes us into the dark hidden subconscious which holds many secrets from the past that inevitably control the present. The great grasps of seductive temptations demonstrated in the location Park Avenue and all its trappings. The horror of this subtle evil well-spoken in the lyrics of Hotel California... "you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave."

Mirrors on the ceiling, The pink champagne on ice And she said 'we are all just prisoners here, of our own device.'  And in the master's chambers, They gathered for the feast They stab it with their steely knives, But they just can't kill the beast.  The last thing I remember, I was Running for the door I had to find the passage back To the place I was before 'Relax,' said the night man, We are programmed to receive. You can check out any time you like, But you can never leave!

Are we all just lost souls possessed by demonic forces?

When we learn the truth hidden in the recesses of our subconscious will we succumb to the dark evil side within us and forever stay trapped in the lower self? Are we all just prisoners here, of our device? I believe the lesson, teaches us it's only a program...a story....and a temptation. The element of horror in this supernatural drama presents us with our personal devil.

THE MIGHTY MACS: Film Review by 3rd Dog Script

"If you loved Hoosiers and Rudy, you will love The Mighty Macs!"
Rudy Ruettiger (The Real-Life Rudy)

The Mighty Macs based on the incredible true story of the 1971-72 Immaculata College team that started in obscurity, but became the original Cinderella story in women's basketball when a national champion crowned for the first time in women's basketball. This newly founded team of pioneers went from barely making that inaugural tournament to becoming the first dynasty in their game. And Cathy Rush, the woman that changed the game for the better, became immortalized when she was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame last year. The Mighty Macs star Carla Gugino as Cathy Rush; David Boreanaz as her husband; NBA referee Ed Rush; Marley Shelton as Sister Sunday; and Academy Award and Tony Award winner Ellen Burstyn as Mother St. John. The Mighty Macs open in theaters on October 21st when released in over 1,000 theaters through Sony Pictures.

Tim Chambers, writer, director, and producer of the true-life sports story, THE MIGHTY MACS, uses a successful formula to inspire the hearts of many. Critics believe this formula is overdone. However, the audience will be the square meter of success for this type of story. Is there an appeal for moral ideals in feel-good stories about athletic events? I submit that the underdog story combined with the athletes’ struggle to be the best one can have the stamp of approval.

Personal Growth: As Seeds Fall Together

As Seeds Fall Together

As seeds in the hard dirt
Are watered and set free
Let not the fear of hurt
Cause one to cry and flee

As seeds break their shell
To rise to the upper crust
Passions too must swell
For an even higher trust

As seeds to stems sprout
And leaves begin to form
Let passions rise and shout
For love must surely be born

As seeds to flowers are born
And their beauty tossed about
Time for new thoughts to form
Casting out shadows of doubt

As seeds fall together and rhyme
And when the winds work is done
Ready for the season and time
Harmony will make them one.

Redemption and Freedom

On the Road to Redemption and freedom...

you'll invariably encounter the following:

Service

From a discourse by Yogi Amrit Desai

Service is a very direct and straightforward way to learn selflessness. The basic idea behind service is that you give without asking for a return.

...The purpose of service is to remove your attachment to your selfish desires gradually and to learn how to receive by giving, sharing, and serving selflessly.

A service is a tool which invariably shows you where you are egotistical and where you are not truly giving. Every conflict you come across as you serve is the direct outcome of your selfishness. If in the past you have been excessively selfish, you will encounter more conflicts in service. Those are not new conflicts. You are simply beginning to see the conflicts and selfishness already buried inside you, and service is a mirror which allows you to see. The purpose of seeing your selfishness is to enable you to become free of it through proper understanding.

...In deciding where you will offer your service, there is one fundamental principle to follow: choose the source from which you wish to receive. Once you begin to give your service, you will invariably begin to receive from that source also, because it is impossible to separate giving and receiving.

Responsibility

-Unknown Author

Responsibility starts with saying you are causing in the matter.

Responsibility is not a burden, fault, praise, blame, credit, shame, or guilt. In responsibility, there is no evaluation of good or bad, right or wrong. There is what's so, and your stand.

Being responsible starts with the willingness to deal with a situation from the point of view that you are the generator of what you do, what you have and what you are. That is not the truth. It is a place to stand.

No one can make you responsible, nor can you impose responsibility on another. It is a grace you give yourself -- an empowering context that leaves you with a voice in the matter of life.

Courage

-Chogyam Trungpa

By darkness, we mean enclosing ourselves in a familiar world in which we can hide or go to sleep.

...We prefer to hide in our personal jungles and caves. When we hide from the world in this way, we feel secure. We may think that we have quieted our fear, but we are making ourselves numb with fear. We surround ourselves with our common thoughts so that nothing sharp or painful can touch us.

...In the cocoon there is no dance: no walking or breathing in the cocoon, there is no idea of light at all until we experience some longing for openness.

Discovering the true meaning of service, taking responsibility for self, and finding the courage to walk away from the cocoon to assert your natural rights will lead you closer to Redemption and Freedom.

The Human Experience: Film Review by 3rd Dog Script

This International Independent Film is shockingly inspiring!

I attended a screening of The Human Experience in Louisville Kentucky at Trinity high school in 2009 and was genuinely moved by this documentary. It's not a typical documentary as it doesn't develop one character for the audience to identify. However, it still captivates the audience because it is authentic, redemptive, and inspiring.

So what's so shocking?

This real story is about a young man and his brother who visit several places of profound suffering. They spend a week living among the homeless on the streets of New York City. They visit a Peruvian home for lost and severely crippled children. Finally, they travel to Africa, interviewing people dying of AIDS and people exiled to a leper colony.  On the surface, the film could depress the happiest person with its depiction of so much suffering in our world.

To the contrary and true to the title
The Human Experience is experiential and touches the heart to bring about human response.  When we connect with others and understand their experience, we learn what it means to be human.

You'll enjoy vivid cinematography, penetrating commentaries, and various views that appeal to all walks of life. The experience will leave you feeling inspired, hopeful, and even more human!

Kudos to the director, Charles Kinnane, and stars, Jeffrey Azize, Clifford Azize, and Michael Campo!

Oh What Beauty

Oh what beauty and depth I see in your face

I leap beyond the horizon into space.

What do I truly see when looking at thee?

The infinite possibilities locked inside of me.

To be lured outside of my limited point of view

I move toward the infinite qualities in you.

When I look into your eyes, I feel so vulnerable,

Eager and willing to step into the unknowable.

Oh what beauty and depth I see in your face

Remembered from a different time and place.

What a great mirror you present to me.

Is it a cosmic mirror reflecting our eternity?

I reach for a broader understanding of the strife

I trust the force of love to bring order to life.

My fellow human keep searching until you find

That elusive spark of light which cures the blind.

Oh what beauty and depth I see in your face

As each moment together is spent in grace.

You melt the covering from my eyes to see

All the reflections of what is meant to be.

The ignorant or foolish games we play

will in the course of time fade away.

But the positive and powerful humankind

That expands and lights up the human mind.
